Heels or Flats? | DC Wedding Photographer Tips

In a previous blog, we talked about a few things to help make your day run more smoothly. Now it’s time to talk about one of the most important items a bride will purchase: footwear.

As DC wedding photographers, we have seen some amazing shoes and can tell you a thing or two.

Wedding invitation is surrounded by bride's sneakers, rings and jewelryConsider this: you’ll be wearing these shoes for at least 6 hours, if not more, so why not make them as comfortable as possible?

Some brides pick heels to balance out the height difference with their future spouse. While others choose flats because they want to be comfortable. If you’re a bride who likes heels and wants to wear a special pair on your wedding day. Here are some things to think about.

  1. Height of heel. Many podiatrists advise against going above 4 inches for a lengthy period of time since it puts a lot of strain on the feet.
  2. Cushion. You didn’t factor in the 3 hours of dancing, the 30 minutes standing in front of your guests to say your vows or the portrait session. So think about getting some extra cushion insoles for your shoes.
  3. Breakin. Please don’t make your wedding day the first time you put them on for more than 20 minutes. We realize that you don’t want to create creases that will ruin your shoes before taking images of them, but they still need to have a little give to them.

If you’re only wearing the heels for photos, make sure you have a comfy pair of shoes on hand.

Whatever you choose to do, we know it will be all your own style and we can’t wait to capture it!
