They’re a great way to personalize your wedding website, invitations, or save the dates – as well as a representation of you and your partner’s love. In the flurry of planning, there are things you might forget. We want to give you some important tips for your engagement session to highlight the main attraction – you!

Step One: Clean

We recommend getting a manicure a day or two before your engagement session – a pedicure too depending on your shoes! Try not to wait until the day of. You never know if your technician could be late – or if there’s traffic. If you don’t have time to go to a salon, spend a few extra minutes pampering yourself at home. Your nails may seem like a little detail but you’ll notice the difference. Be sure to bring a bottle of your go-to polish to your session in case of any touch-ups.

Step 2: Moisturize

Lather on the lotion! Whether it’s the wintertime or your skin is just feeling dry, we want you to look your best in every photo. Pay special attention to your hands, knees, and elbows. Editing dry skin is time-consuming and expensive, a quick application saves you time and money in the long run!

Step 3: Sparkle

Whether you’ve been engaged for 3 weeks or 3 years, everyday wear can dull your ring’s shine. We recommend getting your ring cleaned. Most jewelers offer free cleanings for rings bought at their store. You can also visit a local jeweler to bring that ‘just said yes’ sparkle back to your finger! If you forget, clean your ring at home using these tips from Glamour.

Step 4: Hair & Makeup

Just like your nails, you don’t want to leave your hair and makeup until the last minute. There is nothing worse than a botched haircut the day before your engagement photos, believe us, it happens. A week between your chop and session gives time to live in your new ‘do and anticipate how your hair will behave. If you’re planning on getting anything bleached, waxed, or plucked – make sure to give yourself a few days to allow for any redness or irritation to go away. We highly recommend using this opportunity to have a trial with the hair and makeup team you plan to use for your wedding.
